The Best Restaurants in Mayfair

Three of London's six three Michelin star restaurants are here, and so are several hundred that charge the same for the address. Nine venues checked at source, plus the set lunch strategy.

A grand hotel dining room with chandeliers, panelling and armchairs

Three of London’s six three Michelin star restaurants are in Mayfair. No other part of the country holds more than two. That is the single fact that decides what this neighbourhood is for, and it is also the reason most people eat badly here.

Because alongside those three sit several hundred restaurants that exist to charge Mayfair prices to people who came for the address. The gap between the best and the merely expensive is wider in W1K than anywhere else in London.

The useful rule: in Mayfair the set lunch is not the cheap option, it is the whole point. Almost every serious kitchen here runs one, because the weekday trade is corporate and the weekend is dead, and it is the only way most people will ever eat this cooking.

The three star rooms

Book these as diary exercises rather than reservations. All three release tables on a schedule and all three are gone within the day.

Three Michelin stars

In the hotel, which means you do not have to be staying and nobody will ask. The bar in the same building takes no reservations at all, so if the dining room is beyond you, the Connaught Bar at six o'clock is the same address at a fraction of the outlay.

The Table Lumière, a private table inside a curtain of fibre optic light, is the thing this room is known for and it is booked separately and a long way ahead. Hours, dress code and prices are not published on their site: this is a restaurant that expects a telephone call.

The Lecture Room and Library holds three Michelin stars

Sketch is several rooms rather than one restaurant and only the Lecture Room and Library carries the stars. It is also the narrowest diary here: dinner Tuesday to Thursday from 6pm and Friday and Saturday from 7pm, with lunch on Friday and Saturday only. Book it by name or you will have reserved afternoon tea in the Gallery, which is a completely different and far cheaper afternoon, and no longer the pink room of the photographs either.

The ones you can actually get into

Scott’s, Mount Street

Fish and shellfish on Mount Street, and the terrace is the most contested outdoor table in London. Their published rules about it are unusually frank.

Scott’s

Address
20 Mount Street, W1K 2HE
Nearest
Bond Street or Green Park
Hours
Monday to Wednesday midday to 9.15pm, Thursday to Saturday midday to 10pm, Sunday midday to 9pm
Booking
A reservation guarantees an indoor table only. Terrace requests are allocated oldest first
Price
A minimum spend of 75 pounds a head to dine on the terrace
Standing
Fish and shellfish, on Mount Street

Three things they publish that nobody else does. A booking guarantees you a table inside and not on the terrace, terrace requests are worked through oldest first, and dining outside carries a minimum spend of seventy five pounds a head. Since May 2025 children under six are only admitted at Saturday and Sunday lunch, bank holidays and school breaks.

Hide, Piccadilly

Three floors facing Green Park, one Michelin star, and open from seven in the morning, which almost nothing at this level is.

Hide

Address
85 Piccadilly, W1J 7NB
Nearest
Green Park
Hours
Monday to Friday 7am to 10.30pm, Saturday 9am to 10.30pm, Sunday 9am to 10pm. The Bar Below runs Monday to Saturday 5pm to midnight and Sunday 5pm to 11pm
Booking
020 3146 8666, or online
Price
One Michelin star, held in the 2025 guide
Standing
One Michelin star, and three floors facing Green Park

Open from seven on a weekday, which makes this the only starred breakfast in the postcode and by some distance the easiest table on this page. The Bar Below downstairs keeps its own hours and runs to midnight.

Kitty Fisher’s, Shepherd Market

A small dark room in Shepherd Market, which is the one corner of Mayfair that still feels like a village rather than a showroom.

Kitty Fisher’s

Address
10 Shepherd Market, W1J 7QF
Nearest
Green Park or Hyde Park Corner
Hours
Monday to Saturday, lunch midday to 2.30pm and dinner 5.30pm to 9.30pm
Booking
Reservations through their booking system
Standing
A small room in Shepherd Market, named after an eighteenth century courtesan

The kitchen stops at half past nine, which is early for Mayfair and is the most common way to lose this booking. Shepherd Market is a warren of pedestrian lanes rather than a street, so allow a few minutes to find the door.

The Guinea Grill, Bruton Place

The Guinea Grill

Address
30 Bruton Place, Mayfair, W1J 6NL
Nearest
Bond Street or Green Park
Hours
Pub Monday to Saturday 11am to 11pm and Sunday 11am to 9pm. Food Monday to Saturday midday to 9pm and Sunday midday to 7pm
Booking
The pub is walk in only, in their own words. The restaurant takes bookings, up to 8 in the main dining room. 020 7409 1728
Standing
A restaurant since 1952, billing itself as London's original steakhouse

Two rules in one building: the pub is walk ins only and cannot be booked even for a drinks area, while the restaurant behind it takes bookings of up to eight. Famous for suet lidded pies since the 1940s, the firm favourite being beef shin, Guinness and oyster topped with a deep fried oyster. Sunday roast runs midday to 5pm. It is off a cobbled mews behind Berkeley Square and easy to walk past.

Where to drink, which in Mayfair is the better value

This is the genuinely useful thing about the neighbourhood and almost nobody uses it. The great hotel bars serve the public, take walk ins, and will not ask whether you have a room. The cooking upstairs may be out of reach; the room is not.

Connaught Bar

Address
The Connaught, Carlos Place, Mayfair, W1K 2AL
Nearest
Bond Street or Green Park
Hours
Monday to Saturday 4pm to 1am. No Sunday service
Booking
No reservations taken, by their own published policy
Standing
Repeatedly ranked the best bar in the world

No reservations at all, so the only lever is the hour. It opens at four, and four to six is a quiet room and a seat at the bar. After nine on a Thursday or Friday you are queueing, and on a Sunday there is nothing at all. The martini trolley comes to the table and the drink is built in front of you.

Mr Fogg’s Residence

Address
15 Bruton Lane, Mayfair, W1J 6JD
Nearest
Green Park or Bond Street
Hours
Monday and Tuesday 5pm to 1am, Wednesday to Friday 5pm to 2am, Saturday 2pm to 2am, Sunday 5pm to 11pm
Booking
020 7036 0608
Standing
A wood panelled drawing room hung with artefacts, run as the home of the fictional Phileas J. Fogg

Two things worth timing. A live DJ every Friday and Saturday from 10pm to 2am changes the room completely, and the Murder Mystery afternoons run select Saturdays from 1pm and need booking well ahead. Saturday is the only afternoon opening and Sunday the short night.

Practical notes

The set lunch is the strategy. Almost every serious Mayfair kitchen runs one because the weekday trade is corporate. It is the difference between eating this cooking and reading about it.

Weekends are quiet and that cuts both ways. The offices empty, so a Saturday table is easier than a Tuesday one, and several kitchens reduce their service or close. Check rather than assume.

Kitchens close early here. Scott’s stops at 9.15pm early in the week. Kitty Fisher’s at 9.30pm. This is a lunch and early dinner neighbourhood pretending to be a late one.

Shepherd Market is not on the way to anything. It is a pocket of narrow lanes between Curzon Street and Piccadilly and it is the only part of Mayfair that is not a showroom. Worth a detour whether or not you are eating.

Everything here was taken from each venue’s own published information and rechecked on 28 September 2026. Several of these restaurants publish almost nothing and expect a telephone call. Confirm before you travel.

Where to go next

Buckingham Palace is a short walk away, and Changing the Guard runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The full Mayfair guide covers the drinking, the shopping and the streets. London’s Michelin starred restaurants covers the other three three star rooms.

Comparing neighbourhoods: Notting Hill, which holds the other two, plus Marylebone, Covent Garden, Canary Wharf and Shoreditch.

Questions we get asked

What are the best restaurants in Mayfair?

Three of London's six three Michelin star restaurants are here: Helene Darroze at The Connaught, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, and the Lecture Room and Library at Sketch. For a table you can realistically get, Scott's on Mount Street for fish and Hide on Piccadilly, which holds a star and serves breakfast from seven on a weekday.

How many three Michelin star restaurants are in Mayfair?

Three, out of six in the whole of London: Helene Darroze at The Connaught on Carlos Place, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester on Park Lane, and the Lecture Room and Library at Sketch on Conduit Street. No other part of Britain holds more than two, and the nearest rival is Notting Hill with two.

Can you eat in Mayfair without spending a fortune?

Yes, and the route is the set lunch. Almost every serious kitchen here runs one because the weekday trade is corporate and the weekend is quiet. The other answer is the hotel bars: the Connaught Bar serves the public, takes no reservations and will not ask whether you have a room, so the address costs you the price of a drink.

Do you need to book Scott's terrace?

You cannot, in the way most people mean. Their own terms state that a reservation guarantees an indoor table only, that terrace requests are allocated oldest first, and that dining on the terrace carries a minimum spend of 75 pounds a head. Ask early and be prepared to sit inside.

Is Sketch worth booking?

It depends entirely which room you book, because Sketch is several restaurants at several prices in one building on Conduit Street. Only the Lecture Room and Library holds the three stars, and it serves dinner Tuesday to Saturday and lunch on Friday and Saturday alone. Book that by name, or you may find you have reserved afternoon tea in the Gallery instead, which is a different and much cheaper afternoon.

What time do Mayfair restaurants stop serving?

Earlier than the postcode suggests. Scott's kitchen closes at 9.15pm Monday to Wednesday and Kitty Fisher's at 9.30pm. This is a lunch and early dinner neighbourhood, which follows from a corporate weekday trade rather than a residential evening one. Hide is the exception at both ends, opening at seven in the morning.
