The Marylebone restaurants make it the best eating neighbourhood in central London that nobody argues about, which is unusual and is mostly a function of scale. It is small, it is residential, and the rents are high enough to keep out the chains and low enough to let a good restaurant stay open for twenty years.
The result is a postcode of second visits. Soho turns over constantly and Mayfair opens for the money. Marylebone mostly just carries on: the chippy is from 1914, Trishna has held its Michelin star since 2012, and the Basque grill on Seymour Place has a sister restaurant a short walk away.
One correction before anything else, because it affects a great many lists.
Chiltern Firehouse is closed
Their own site says it: “Due to the recent fire, we will remain closed until further notice.” It is still the first or second entry on most guides to eating in Marylebone, and it is not a restaurant you can go to.
The one date that does exist is in the company’s own accounts. The forecast filed at Companies House puts the reopening in April 2027. The fire began in a basement pizza oven on 14 February 2025, spread through hidden cavities between the floors, destroyed the third floor and the roof, and badly damaged parts of the ground and second. More than a hundred guests were evacuated and nobody was hurt. Restoration is under way with conservation architects, because the building is a listed former fire station.
Chiltern Firehouse Closed
- Address
- 1 Chiltern Street, W1U 7PA
- Nearest
- Baker Street or Bond Street
- Hours
- Closed since 14 February 2025. The forecast in the company’s filed accounts is April 2027
- Standing
- Closed after a fire, by their own published notice
How to get in
Their website carries one line and it is the only line that matters: closed until further notice after the fire. It publishes no reopening date, and the only one on record is the April 2027 forecast in the accounts. Do not build an evening around it and do not trust a list that still ranks it.
The serious Marylebone restaurants
Trishna, Blandford Street
Indian coastal cooking, one Michelin star held since 2012, and a lunch and early evening menu of two, three or four courses.
Trishna
- Address
- 15 to 17 Blandford Street, W1U 3DG
- Nearest
- Bond Street
- Hours
- Lunch Wednesday to Sunday. Dinner Monday to Saturday until 10.15pm, Sunday until 9.45pm
- Booking
- 020 7935 5624
- Standing
- One Michelin star, awarded 2012 and held since
How to get in
They state that all their availability is shown online, which saves you the telephone call every other starred restaurant makes you make. The two, three and four course menus run at lunch from midday to 2.15pm and in the early evening from 5pm to 6.15pm, and they are the way into the starred cooking without the full tasting menu.
Orrery, Marylebone High Street
Above the Conran Shop, in a long first floor room built out of an old stable block, now run as Orrery by Pierre Minotti, and the timing is the thing to get right.
Orrery
- Address
- 55 Marylebone High Street, W1U 5RB
- Nearest
- Bond Street or Regent’s Park
- Hours
- Tuesday dinner only, from 6pm with the last sitting at 9.15pm. Wednesday to Saturday lunch from midday with the last sitting at 1.45pm, and dinner as Tuesday. Closed Monday and Sunday
- Booking
- 020 7616 8000. Online reservations cover parties up to eight
- Standing
- A first floor room above the Conran Shop
How to get in
Read the last sittings rather than the closing time. A 9.15pm cut off for dinner is early for central London and it is the most common way people get this booking wrong. Closed both Sunday and Monday, which rules it out of most weekends, and there is no lunch on a Tuesday.
Lurra and Donostia
Two Basque restaurants from the same owners. Lurra does the grill, Donostia does the counter, and between them they cover the whole week, Sunday included: Lurra does Sunday lunch and Donostia Sunday evening.
Lurra
- Address
- 9 Seymour Place, W1H 5BA
- Nearest
- Marble Arch or Edgware Road
- Hours
- Monday 5.30pm to 10.30pm. Tuesday to Saturday midday to 3pm and 5.30pm to 10.30pm. Sunday 12.30pm to 3.30pm only
- Booking
- 020 7724 4545, or online
- Standing
- Basque grill cooking, aged beef and whole turbot
How to get in
Sunday is lunch only and it finishes at half past three, so a Sunday evening here does not exist. Monday has no lunch service at all. Between those two the week is straightforward, and the turbot is the reason to come.
Donostia
- Address
- 40 to 42 Chiltern Street, W1U 7QN
- Nearest
- Baker Street
- Hours
- Monday to Thursday 5.30pm to 11pm, Friday and Saturday midday to 3pm and 5.30pm to 11pm, Sunday 4pm to 9pm
- Booking
- 020 3620 1845, or online
- Standing
- Basque counter dining, from the same people as Lurra
How to get in
Check the address on the day. Their own site lists both Chiltern Street and 10 Seymour Place, and those are two different walks from two different stations. Sunday is a short day, four until nine, and there is no weekday lunch before Friday. The same site’s contact block says midday to 11pm every day, and for times outside the main hours it points you to a Donostia x Maset popup, so book online and let the system show what is actually available.
The rooms that open early and stay open
Fischer’s, Marylebone High Street
An Austrian cafe from the Wolseley people, open from half past seven on a weekday, and one of very few good central London rooms where an unbooked breakfast is realistic.
Fischer’s
- Address
- 50 Marylebone High Street, W1U 5HN
- Nearest
- Bond Street or Regent’s Park
- Hours
- Monday 7.30am to last orders at 9.30pm, Tuesday to Friday 7.30am to last orders at 10pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to last orders at 10pm
- Price
- A no show charge of 15 pounds a head
- Standing
- Wolseley Hospitality Group
How to get in
Two things from their own terms that are worth knowing. Some tables are held back for walk ins, so an unbooked breakfast is realistic in a postcode where that is rare. And there is a no show charge of fifteen pounds a head, which they state plainly.
The Ivy Cafe, Marylebone Lane
The Ivy Cafe Marylebone
- Address
- 96 Marylebone Lane, W1U 2QA
- Nearest
- Bond Street, a six minute walk
- Hours
- Monday and Tuesday 8am to 11pm, Wednesday and Thursday 8am to 11.30pm, Friday 8am to midnight, Saturday 9am to midnight, Sunday 9am to 11pm
- Booking
- Tables of up to 14 online, larger parties by email
- Standing
- Open from 8am and late every night of the week
How to get in
The most forgiving booking in Marylebone: open from eight in the morning until at least eleven at night every single day, and it will take fourteen people online without a conversation. That combination is the reason to keep it in mind rather than the cooking.
Opso, Paddington Street
Opso
- Address
- 10 Paddington Street, W1U 5QL
- Nearest
- Baker Street or Bond Street
- Hours
- Monday to Friday lunch from midday, dinner to 11.30pm with last orders at 10.30pm. Saturday and Sunday brunch from 10am. Sunday closes at 11pm with last orders at 10pm
- Booking
- 020 7487 5088
- Standing
- Modern Greek small plates
How to get in
They publish last orders separately from closing time, which almost nobody does and which is the useful number: the kitchen stops an hour before the room does. Weekend brunch starts at ten and runs until quarter to five, which makes this the long weekend option.
The one that is older than all of it
The Golden Hind, Marylebone Lane
A fish and chip shop from 1914, with a decommissioned art deco fryer kept as the centrepiece of the room. It is the best cheap meal in the postcode and it is not remotely a secret.
The Golden Hind
- Address
- 71a to 73 Marylebone Lane, W1U 2PN
- Nearest
- Bond Street
- Hours
- Monday to Saturday midday to 3.30pm and 6pm to 10.30pm, Sunday midday to 7.30pm
- Booking
- 020 7486 3644
- Standing
- Established 1914
How to get in
Sunday is the long day, straight through from midday to half past seven, where every other day closes between half past three and six. Book anyway: it is a small room and it fills.
Practical notes
Sunday and Monday are the problem days. Orrery closes both. Lurra does Sunday lunch only and no Monday lunch. Donostia opens at four on a Sunday. Trishna, Opso, The Golden Hind, Fischer’s and The Ivy Cafe all carry a normal weekend.
Pick the station by the end of the street. The south end, with Marylebone Lane and Blandford Street, is nearest Bond Street, where the Elizabeth line has made it the fastest arrival from the City and from Heathrow. The north half of the high street, with Daunt Books, Fischer’s and Orrery, is nearer Baker Street or Regent’s Park.
Read last orders, not closing time. Orrery’s last dinner sitting is 9.15pm. Opso’s kitchen stops an hour before the room. This is the single most common way to lose a Marylebone dinner.
The high street is a real high street. Daunt Books, La Fromagerie and the Sunday farmers’ market behind the high street are the reason to come at lunchtime rather than at night. Our Marylebone guide covers the rest.
Everything here was taken from each venue’s own published information and rechecked on 28 September 2026. Confirm before you travel, particularly anything with a fire notice on it.

Where to go next
The full Marylebone guide covers what to do between meals: the Wallace Collection, Daunt Books, the Sunday farmers’ market and Wigmore Hall. For the city-wide lists, the best restaurants in London and the Michelin starred restaurants.
Comparing neighbourhoods: Covent Garden, Canary Wharf and Shoreditch are the other lists.
Questions we get asked
What are the best restaurants in Marylebone?
Trishna on Blandford Street for Michelin starred cooking with a set lunch, Lurra on Seymour Place for Basque grilling and whole turbot, and The Golden Hind on Marylebone Lane, a fish and chip shop from 1914, for the best cheap meal in the neighbourhood. Orrery is the grand room, with the earliest last sitting of the group.
Is Chiltern Firehouse still open?
No. It has been closed since a fire on 14 February 2025, and its own website states that it will remain closed until further notice. The website publishes no reopening date. The forecast filed in the company's accounts at Companies House is April 2027. It still appears near the top of most Marylebone restaurant lists, which is a good demonstration of how rarely those lists are rechecked.
Where can you eat in Marylebone on a Sunday?
The Ivy Cafe, from nine in the morning until eleven at night, Fischer's from nine with last orders at ten, and Opso, with brunch from ten and dinner until eleven. The Golden Hind runs straight through from midday to half past seven, Trishna serves lunch and then dinner until 9.45pm, Lurra does Sunday lunch only until half past three, Donostia does not open until four, and Orrery is closed on both Sunday and Monday.
Does Marylebone have a Michelin star?
Several. The 2026 Michelin Guide files five one star restaurants under Marylebone: AngloThai, KOL, Lita, Portland and Trishna. Trishna on Blandford Street has held its star since 2012, and it is Indian coastal cooking rather than the formal European dining people expect from a star, with lunch and early evening menus of two to four courses as the way in.
Do you need to book restaurants in Marylebone?
For dinner yes, and for two of them the detail matters. Orrery takes online reservations for parties up to eight and needs a call beyond that, with a last dinner sitting of 9.15pm. Fischer's holds some tables back for walk ins, which makes an unbooked breakfast realistic, and charges fifteen pounds a head for a no show.
What is the nearest station to Marylebone High Street?
It depends which end. The south end, with Marylebone Lane and Blandford Street, is nearest Bond Street, which the Ivy Cafe puts at a six minute walk and where the Elizabeth line gives the quickest arrival from the City, Heathrow and Canary Wharf. The north half, with Daunt Books, Fischer's and Orrery, is nearer Baker Street or Regent's Park.
