Peckham: What Changed at the Levels, and When the Roof Opens

Peckham Levels is no longer a food hall and closes Mondays and Tuesdays, and Bold Tendencies on the car park roof is shut until spring. Hours, prices and the rules.

Two things about Peckham have changed and most guides have not caught up with either.

Peckham Levels is no longer a food hall of independent traders. The public floors are now one venue, Multi Story, on Level 6, with a single in-house kitchen. If you were coming for a hall of stalls, that is not what is there.

And the rooftop everyone means when they say Peckham is shut for the winter. Bold Tendencies, the arts organisation on the roof of the multi-storey car park, ran its 2026 season from 15 May to 12 September. It is a summer thing, and it is over.

Peckham Levels, and the two days it is closed

At 95a Rye Lane, SE15 4ST, with Peckham Rye the nearest station for both Overground and rail services.

Closed Monday and Tuesday. That is the first thing to know and it is easy to miss.

The rest of the week the building runs Wednesday and Thursday 9am to midnight, Friday 9am to 1am, Saturday midday to 1am, and Sunday midday to 9pm.

Inside that, three different things keep three different sets of hours:

The bar opens at 4pm on Wednesday and Thursday and runs to midnight, then midday to 1am on Friday and Saturday and midday to 10pm on Sunday.

The coffee shop opens on Tuesday, 9am to 5pm, which makes it the one part of the building available on a day the rest is shut. It runs 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday and midday to 6pm at weekends.

The kitchen serves until 11pm Wednesday to Saturday and until 7pm on Sunday.

What Multi Story actually is

A bar, coffee shop and restaurant at the top of the coloured staircase, with pool tables, arcade machines, board games and a photobooth, and a custom sound system with DJs and live sets at night.

The food is a printed menu rather than a choice of traders. Burgers are 16 pounds, a lentil burger 13, half a rack of ribs 15 and a full rack 22. Small plates run from 3.50 pounds for a salad and 5 for focaccia up to 10.50 for a prawn basket, with wings, bao, croquettes and padron peppers in between.

There is a private karaoke room off the main bar with a catalogue of more than 80,000 songs. Our karaoke page covers how that compares with the rest of the city.

The rules at Peckham Levels

Children are welcome with parental supervision until 4.30pm daily, and under 18s must be accompanied at all times. After half four it becomes an adult room.

It is dog friendly, which is rarer than it sounds for a venue of this kind.

There is step free access via the ground floor lifts, and security will help if there is a problem.

Parking nearby is very limited, though there are plenty of bike racks in the entrance alleyway. Finding the door is the other trick: from Rye Lane, walk towards the Peckhamplex cinema, turn right, and follow the alleyway down to a set of black doors, then up the coloured stairs.

Bold Tendencies, and when to come back

Bold Tendencies is a not for profit arts organisation in the rooftop spaces of the Peckham multi-storey car park, which has been turning a disused building into a public space since 2007.

The 2026 season, its twentieth anniversary, ran from 15 May to 12 September. Seasons have historically run from spring into early autumn, so the useful advice is to plan this for May onwards rather than for a weekend in November.

It is also the reason Peckham gets described as having the best view in south London, and the reason that description is seasonal.

What is open all year

The restaurants are the constant, and our Peckham restaurants page covers them with addresses and prices.

Rye Lane itself is the point of the place: a working high street with African and Caribbean grocers, fabric shops and butchers alongside the newer bars, rather than a strip that has been entirely replaced.

The Peckhamplex cinema on Rye Lane is the landmark you navigate by, and it has long been one of the cheapest cinemas in London.

How to plan a day

Monday or Tuesday: Rye Lane and the restaurants, because Peckham Levels is shut, apart from the coffee shop on Tuesday.

Wednesday or Thursday evening: Multi Story from 4pm, when the bar opens.

Summer: Bold Tendencies on the roof, between roughly May and mid September, and check the dates for the year.

With a dog: Peckham Levels, which takes them.

Dalston and Brixton are the nearest comparisons for this kind of night out, and Shoreditch is the version with more money in it.
