The Best Restaurants in Canary Wharf

Ten restaurants checked against their own published information, and the rule nobody prints: book midweek, walk in at the weekend. Canary Wharf runs on a working week.

Canary Wharf has 63 restaurants and 41 bars by the estate’s own count, and almost every guide to them is written as though the estate behaves like a restaurant district. It does not. It runs on a working week, and once you understand that, eating here becomes the easiest booking in London.

The rule is the inverse of everywhere else: book midweek, walk in at the weekend. Forty thousand people arrive on a Tuesday and almost nobody on a Saturday, so the tables that are impossible on a Wednesday evening are sitting empty two days later, waterside, with a view.

The Elizabeth line is why this is now worth the journey rather than a compromise. Liverpool Street is about seven minutes away and Bond Street about twelve, which makes Canary Wharf closer to Mayfair than most of Zone 2.

The rule that governs a Canary Wharf dinner

Three things follow from the working week, and all three catch people out.

Some kitchens close on Sunday and Monday. Not all, and not the ones you would guess. This is a business district with restaurants in it rather than a restaurant district, and a weekend trip needs checking rather than assuming.

The interesting openings went to Wood Wharf, not Cabot Square. Wood Wharf is the newer half, east of the original estate and along the water. If a list sends you only to Cabot Square it was written a few years ago and not revisited.

It is windier than you expect. Tall towers, open water, and several of the best tables are outside or high up. Bring a layer you would not need in Soho.

The serious dinners

Hawksmoor, Wood Wharf

The most reliable proper dinner on the estate, on the waterside in the newer half. The steak is the reason on any night, and the Sunday roast is the reason to come at the weekend specifically.

Hawksmoor Wood Wharf

Address
Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf
Nearest
Canary Wharf
Price
Sunday roast, dry aged rump 29.50 pounds, sirloin 35, or the Winslade Wellington at 28. The Sunday Feasting option adds 9.50 a head, for two or more
Standing
The most reliable serious dinner on the estate, and twice voted the best Sunday lunch in the UK by its own account

The roast is guaranteed only until 5pm, which is the single most useful fact on this page: a Sunday booking at seven may not get you the thing you came for. Beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshires and a bone marrow and onion gravy, and there is now a proper vegetarian roast rather than a token one. Book midweek, and at the weekend you will usually get in.

Bōkan, Marsh Wall

The best view in the district and the only one arranged intelligently: three floors at the top of the Novotel, each doing a different thing.

Bōkan

Address
40 Marsh Wall, Canary Wharf
Nearest
South Quay or Canary Wharf
Hours
Restaurant Tuesday to Saturday evenings, plus Saturday brunch from 12.30pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Bar open seven days, from midday at weekends and late on Friday and Saturday
Standing
Restaurant on level 37, bar on 38, rooftop terrace on 39

The restaurant and the bar keep completely different hours and the bar is the one that is always open. If a Sunday or Monday is the only night you have, the restaurant is shut and the bar is not, so go to 38 or 39 and eat elsewhere. A drink on the terrace at dusk is the single best thing in Canary Wharf.

Boisdale of Canary Wharf, Cabot Square

Scottish in inclination: beef, game and shellfish, across two restaurants and a great many rooms. It is the one place on the estate that feels like an evening rather than a meal, because of the music.

Boisdale of Canary Wharf

Address
Cabot Square, Canary Wharf
Nearest
Canary Wharf
Hours
Hine Bar Tuesday and Wednesday midday to midnight, Thursday to 1am, Friday and Saturday to 2am. Restaurant from 6pm Tuesday to Friday and from midday on Saturday. Both midday to 5pm on Sunday. Closed Monday
Booking
020 7715 5818, or reservations@boisdale-cw.co.uk
Standing
A main restaurant, four private dining rooms, the Hine Bar and garden terrace, a whisky bar and a cigar library with a walk-in humidor

Live music is the reason to choose it over a better kitchen: nowhere else here gives you a reason to stay past the bill. The performances are ticketed through its own calendar rather than nightly, so check what is on before you book, and remember it is shut on a Monday and finished by five on a Sunday.

The best value, which is better than the district’s reputation

Blacklock, Frobisher Passage

The best value proper meal in Canary Wharf by a distance, and not a close contest.

Blacklock Canary Wharf

Address
5 Frobisher Passage, Canary Wharf
Nearest
Canary Wharf
Price
All In, 28 pounds a head, minimum two people
Standing
Chophouse, beef lamb and pork over coals

Twenty eight pounds a head for the All In, which is chops over coals with the trimmings and is more food than most people finish. They hold a few tables back for walk ins, which almost nothing else on the estate does, so this is the one to try when you have not booked.

Big Easy, Crossrail Place

Barbecue and shellfish in a large, loud room directly above the Elizabeth line entrance, which makes it the easiest place here to reach and the easiest to leave.

Big Easy Canary Wharf

Address
Park Level, Crossrail Place, Canary Wharf, E14 5AR
Nearest
Canary Wharf, directly above the Elizabeth line entrance
Hours
Monday midday to 9pm, Tuesday to Thursday midday to 10pm, Friday and Saturday midday to 10.30pm, Sunday midday to 9pm
Standing
Barbecue and shellfish in a large room

It sits on the park level of Crossrail Place, directly over the main Elizabeth line entrance, so you are eight minutes from Liverpool Street at the door. It closes at nine on a Sunday and Monday, which is early for a room this size.

The ones you cannot book, and should not try to

Dishoom, Water Street

The Bombay cafe, in Wood Wharf, and the booking policy is the entire thing to understand before you go.

Dishoom Canary Wharf

Address
13 Water Street, Canary Wharf, E14 5GX
Nearest
Canary Wharf on the Jubilee line, Montgomery Street exit
Hours
Monday to Thursday 8am to 11pm, Friday 8am to midnight, Saturday 9am to midnight, Sunday 9am to 11pm
Booking
Groups of any size may book during the day. After 6pm they take bookings only for six or more
Standing
Open from 8am on a weekday, which almost nothing else here is

Turn up after six as a two and you are queueing, because the evening tables are walk in only unless you are six or more. Their own estimate of the wait on evenings and weekends is thirty minutes to an hour. They bring you chai while you stand, and you can drink and eat at the bar until a table comes up. Breakfast and lunch have little or no queue, which is the answer nobody uses.

Pergola on the Wharf, Crossrail Place

A covered rooftop of street food traders and bars. It is a drinking room with food in it rather than a restaurant, and it works on those terms.

Pergola on the Wharf

Address
Crossrail Place, Canary Wharf, E14 5AR
Nearest
Canary Wharf, Elizabeth line
Hours
Monday to Wednesday midday to 11pm, Thursday to Saturday midday to midnight, Sunday midday to 10pm
Booking
Tables are held back for walk in guests, first come first served. 020 8176 6105
Price
No tracksuit bottoms, sport shorts, vests, hoods, caps, flip flops or sportswear
Standing
A planted bar and restaurant under the Crossrail Place roof garden, with a terrace over the north dock

They keep tables back for walk ins on a first come basis, so an early arrival beats a booking here. There is a dress code and it is published in those words: no tracksuit bottoms, sport shorts, vests, hoods, caps, flip flops or sportswear. Worth knowing before a group turns up from a Saturday of something else.

The all day rooms

These three open early, close late and take bookings, which makes them the ones to use when the plan is unclear or the group is large.

The Ivy in the Park, Canada Square Park

The Ivy in the Park

Address
50 Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf, E14 5FW
Nearest
Canary Wharf, Upper Bank Street exit, three minutes on foot
Hours
Monday to Wednesday 8am to 11pm, Thursday 8am to 11.30pm, Friday and Saturday 9am to 11.30pm, Sunday 9am to 11pm
Booking
Tables of up to 14 online, larger parties by email
Standing
On the park rather than the water, and open from breakfast

Fourteen online is a high ceiling for a central London booking and it is the reason to keep this one for a group. It faces Canada Square Park rather than the docks, which is the better view in summer and the worse one in February.

Brother Marcus, Reuters Plaza

Brother Marcus Canary Wharf

Address
Reuters Plaza, YY Building, Canary Wharf, E14 5HX
Nearest
Opposite the Jubilee line, minutes from the Elizabeth line
Hours
Monday to Friday 7am to 11pm, Saturday 9am to 11pm, Sunday 9am to 9pm
Booking
Up to 22 guests online, 23 or more by enquiry
Standing
Mediterranean and mezze, with a terrace

Twenty two online is the largest party any restaurant on this page will take without a conversation, so this is the default for an office dinner. It opens at seven on a weekday, which is a breakfast trade rather than a courtesy.

COCO, West India Quay

COCO Canary Wharf

Address
West India Quay, 14 Hertsmere Road, E14 4AF
Nearest
West India Quay on the DLR, or Canary Wharf and a walk across the footbridge
Hours
Monday to Sunday 12.30pm to 11.30pm
Price
Lunch set menu £20 a head, Monday to Friday 12.30pm to 4pm
Standing
Continental grill and lounge, with a weekend programme

Seven days and the same hours every one of them, which on this estate is rare enough to be the reason to pick it, and the weekday set lunch at twenty pounds is the cheapest sit down deal here. It is on West India Quay rather than the estate proper, over the footbridge, so it stays open and busy on the weekends when the towers empty.

Practical notes

Book Tuesday to Thursday. Walk in Saturday and Sunday. This is the opposite of the rest of London and it is worth planning a trip around.

Come by Elizabeth line rather than Jubilee. Seven minutes from Liverpool Street, around twelve from Bond Street, and the station puts you directly under Crossrail Place, where three of the places above are.

Check Sunday and Monday before you travel. Bōkan’s restaurant is shut both days. Big Easy closes at nine. Several kitchens on the estate do not open at all.

The free roof garden is on top of the station. The Crossrail Place Roof Garden is a long glasshouse of subtropical planting directly above the Elizabeth line platforms, open daily and free, which makes it the obvious thing to do before dinner. Our Canary Wharf guide covers the rest of the estate.

Everything here was taken from each venue’s own published information and rechecked on 28 September 2026. Opening hours, prices and booking policies change. Confirm before you travel.

Where to go next

The full Canary Wharf guide covers what to do between meals: the roof garden, the free London Museum Docklands on West India Quay, the docks and the drinking. For the city-wide lists, the best restaurants in London and the best steak restaurants cover the top end.

If you are comparing neighbourhoods, the best restaurants in Shoreditch is the other east London list, and what is near you ranks every neighbourhood we have written up by distance.

Questions we get asked

What are the best restaurants in Canary Wharf?

Hawksmoor at Wood Wharf for a serious dinner and for the Sunday roast, Blacklock for the best value by a distance at 28 pounds a head for the All In, and Bokan at the top of the Novotel for the view. Dishoom is the one people queue for, and the queue is avoidable: they take bookings during the day and after 6pm only for groups of six or more.

Do you need to book a restaurant in Canary Wharf?

Midweek yes, at the weekend usually not, which is the reverse of the rest of London. The estate fills with about forty thousand workers on a Tuesday and empties on a Saturday, so the tables that are impossible on a Wednesday evening are free two days later. Blacklock and Pergola both hold tables back for walk ins.

What is open in Canary Wharf on a Sunday?

Less than you would expect, and not the places you would guess. Bokan's restaurant closes Sunday and Monday while its bar stays open seven days. Big Easy closes at nine on Sunday. COCO on West India Quay keeps the same hours every day of the week, which on this estate is unusual enough to be the reason to choose it.

Where can you eat with a view in Canary Wharf?

Bokan, at the top of the Novotel on Marsh Wall, and it is arranged across three floors: the restaurant on 37, the bar on 38 and the rooftop terrace on 39. The bar and terrace open seven days while the restaurant does not, so a drink on 39 at dusk is the version that always works.

Is Canary Wharf expensive to eat in?

Less than its reputation, because the money here is corporate rather than personal and the competition is for lunch trade. Blacklock does chops over coals for 28 pounds a head. Hawksmoor's Sunday rump is 29.50. Those are central London prices in a district people assume is dearer than Mayfair.

How do you get to Canary Wharf?

The Elizabeth line, which is the whole reason the district changed: about seven minutes from Liverpool Street and twelve from Bond Street. The Jubilee line and the DLR both serve it too, but the Elizabeth line station sits directly under Crossrail Place, where Big Easy, Pergola and the free roof garden all are.

What is the best value restaurant in Canary Wharf?

Blacklock on Frobisher Passage. The All In is 28 pounds a head for a minimum of two and is beef, lamb and pork chops over coals with the trimmings. It is more food than most people finish and it is the only place on the estate where the value is the headline rather than the consolation.
