Camden Market Is a Food Court. The Restaurants Are Five Minutes Away.

The market lists three stalls with Thai in the name and two selling churros, so choosing by name does not work. The Lock shuts at seven, the food halls run to eleven, and the pub goes to one. Here is the timeline that decides your evening.

Street food stalls at Camden Town market

Camden Market lists well over a hundred places to eat, and you cannot usefully choose between them by name.

Its own food and drink pages currently carry three separate stalls with Thai in the name, Thai Thai, Thainese and Thai Street Food, plus a fourth called Camden Noodle. There are two selling churros, one called Churros and the other Donuts and Churros. The descriptions run to Flavour and spice, Mexican deliciousness, Delicious Indian street bites, Deep fried delights.

This is a food court, and a good one, but it is a food court. Every guide that hands you fifteen stall names is pretending otherwise, and anybody who has stood in the Lock at one o’clock on a Saturday knows the names are not how the decision gets made.

So the honest version of this page splits in two: what the market is genuinely good at, and where the restaurants with names and bookable tables actually are. They are not the same place.

What the market is for

Grazing, variety and a very wide choice at a low price, eaten standing up, between ten in the morning and seven at night.

The one structural thing to know is that the market estate does not keep one set of hours, and the difference decides your evening. Our Camden Market guide has the full breakdown of which site trades when, including the retail trap at Hawley Wharf and the fact that Camden shuts only one day a year.

The short version for eating: the Lock and the Stables stop at seven, and the food halls at Hawley Wharf run to eleven, every night. After seven you are going to Hawley Wharf whether you planned to or not.

The market’s own caveat is worth carrying: its traders are independent businesses and individual times vary. Published hours are the outer edge rather than a promise.

The Camden restaurants that have names

All three of these are outside the market, all three take a booking or a proper sit down, and all three are within about five minutes of it.

Mildreds, Jamestown Road

Vegan since 1988, which is a long time before the rest of this street thought of it.

Mildreds Camden

Address
9 Jamestown Road, NW1 7BW
Nearest
Camden Town
Price
Mains from 14.90 to 19.90 pounds, desserts 9.90 to 12.50, small plates and sides from 3.90
Standing
Vegan and vegetarian, trading since 1988

Their own listed features answer most of the reasons a Camden booking goes wrong: dog friendly, outdoor seating, step free access and large group dining. Five minutes from the Lock and a completely different proposition to a stall, with a table you booked and a printed menu.

Namaaste Kitchen, Parkway

On the road that runs from Camden Town station towards Regent’s Park, which is the quiet edge of the neighbourhood and the direction to walk when the market has worn you out.

Namaaste Kitchen

Address
64 Parkway, NW1 7AH
Nearest
Camden Town
Standing
Indian, on the Parkway side rather than the market side

Parkway runs away from the crowds towards Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill, and the restaurants along it keep ordinary restaurant hours rather than market ones. Their own address describes the location as Camden and Primrose Hill, which is a fair account of the atmosphere as well as the geography.

The Hawley Arms, Castlehaven Road

The pub, and the answer to the question the rest of this page raises.

The Hawley Arms

Address
2 Castlehaven Road, Camden, NW1 8QU
Nearest
Camden Town or Chalk Farm
Hours
Midday to midnight Sunday to Thursday. Midday to 1am Friday and Saturday
Standing
The Camden pub, a couple of minutes from Hawley Wharf

Open to midnight every night of the week and to one in the morning at weekends, which is an hour past the point the food halls stop. In a neighbourhood where the whole market shuts at seven, a pub running to midnight seven nights a week is the thing worth writing down.

The timeline, which is how to choose between Camden restaurants

Before seven: the whole market. Widest choice in Camden and the reason to come at all, eaten on your feet.

Seven to eleven: Hawley Wharf food halls, or a booked table on Jamestown Road or Parkway. The Lock and the Stables have shut.

After eleven: the pub. The Hawley Arms runs to midnight, and to one in the morning on Friday and Saturday.

Almost every Camden evening that goes wrong goes wrong because somebody arrived at half past seven expecting the market they saw at lunchtime.

Practical notes

Walk north after seven and south for a table. Chalk Farm Road towards Hawley Wharf is the late food. Parkway and Jamestown Road are where the bookable rooms are.

Bank holidays are a full day here. Unusually for London, the market trades its normal hours on them, which the market guide covers in full.

Do not plan around one named stall. Traders change, several sell the same thing, and the market itself says individual hours vary. Pick the site and the hour, then choose when you are standing there.

Everything here was taken from the market’s own published pages and each venue’s own site on 27 September 2026 and rechecked on 2 October 2026. Confirm before you travel, particularly for anything inside the market.

Where to go next

The Camden Market guide covers the market itself: which of the sites trades when, how it compares with Portobello, and the one day a year it shuts. The best restaurants in London puts the neighbourhood in context.

Primrose Hill is the ten minute walk from Parkway and the answer when Camden is too much. Borough Market is the closest comparison south of the river: another market where the serious eating is in the streets around it rather than the stalls inside.

The vegan guide has Mildreds in its proper company, the Indian guide covers what Namaaste Kitchen is measured against, and the pub guide puts The Hawley Arms against the rest.

Things to do in Camden covers the evening either side of dinner, from the Jazz Cafe and KOKO to the canal waterbus, and it is the argument for treating the market as the opening rather than the destination.

Late night restaurants is where to go when even the Hawley Arms has called time.

Questions we get asked

What are the best restaurants in Camden?

It depends whether you want a stall or a table, and they are genuinely different questions. For a booked table: Mildreds on Jamestown Road has been vegan since 1988 and lists step free access, outdoor seating and dog friendly among its features, and Namaaste Kitchen sits on Parkway towards Primrose Hill. The Hawley Arms on Castlehaven Road is the pub, open to midnight every night. Inside the market you are choosing from a food court rather than between restaurants.

Where can you eat in Camden after 7pm?

The food halls at Hawley Wharf on Chalk Farm Road, which serve until 11pm seven nights a week, or a booked table away from the market on Jamestown Road or Parkway. The Lock and the Stables both stop at seven. After eleven the answer is the pub: The Hawley Arms runs to midnight Sunday to Thursday and to 1am on Friday and Saturday.

Is Camden Market good for food?

Yes, as a food court rather than as a restaurant destination, and the distinction is worth making before you go. Its own listing runs to well over a hundred traders and a good many are close to interchangeable: there are currently three stalls with Thai in the name and two selling churros. The choice is wide and the prices are low. What you will not find is a room with a point of view and a table you booked.

Do Camden restaurants take bookings?

The stalls inside the market do not, and are not set up for it. The restaurants outside it do, which is the main practical reason to walk five minutes away from the Lock. Mildreds on Jamestown Road and Namaaste Kitchen on Parkway both take reservations and keep ordinary restaurant hours rather than market hours.

How late is Camden open?

Later than the market suggests. The Lock and the Stables close at 7pm, the Hawley Wharf food halls run to 11pm every night of the week, and The Hawley Arms on Castlehaven Road serves until midnight from Sunday to Thursday and until 1am on Friday and Saturday. The neighbourhood has a late evening, it is just not in the part most visitors see.
