Two of the best Greek restaurants in London sit four doors apart on the same Notting Hill street, under the same ownership. Turn up late at one and your table is cancelled automatically after fifteen minutes. Turn up late at the other and you get twenty, if you ring.
That is the useful thing about this small, well run corner of London eating: everybody publishes their rules, and no two sets are the same. Here is what each one says.
The starred one
OMA, Borough Market
London has one Michelin starred Greek restaurant and it is above a counter at Borough Market.
OMA sits at 2 to 4 Bedale Street, SE1 9AL, directly above its downstairs counterpart AGORA. The Michelin Guide lists it as Greek and Mediterranean at three pounds signs, and it holds one star.
That is worth stating plainly because almost every list of Greek restaurants in London leaves it out, and because it changes the shape of the answer. The rest of this page is about rooms with rules, which is the useful way to choose between very good restaurants. OMA is the one where the cooking is the reason.
Our Borough Market guide covers what else is worth eating there and the hours problem that governs the whole district.
The strict one
Mazi, Hillgate Street
Modern Greek sharing plates in Notting Hill, on a two hour clock.
Mazi
- Address
- 12 to 14 Hillgate Street, W8 7SR
- Nearest
- Notting Hill Gate, three minutes
- Booking
- 020 7229 3794 or info@mazi.co.uk. Tables run in two hour slots unless arranged otherwise, or for groups larger than six. A 24 hour cancellation is requested, and a late arrival of more than fifteen minutes is cancelled automatically
- Standing
- Mazi means together in Greek, and the restaurant is built around the Greek sharing table, with sister sites in Abu Dhabi and Morocco
How to get in
Read the arrival rule before you book, because it is the strictest on this page and it is automatic: a late arrival of more than fifteen minutes is cancelled without a conversation. The two hour slot is the other constraint, and the exceptions are published, so if you want longer or you are more than six, ask when you book rather than on the night. The cooking is old Greek recipes reworked, served to share, which is the whole concept rather than a style choice. Notting Hill Gate is three minutes away, so being fifteen minutes late here takes some doing.
The one that keeps space back
Suzi Tros, Hillgate Street
Four doors from Mazi, same owners, and a completely different door policy.
Suzi Tros
- Address
- 18 Hillgate Street, W8 7SR
- Nearest
- Notting Hill Gate, three minutes
- Booking
- 020 7221 2223 or info@suzitros.com. Bookings taken, with space kept back for walk ins. Confirm your booking by 4pm on the day. Late arrivals should ring, or the table may be released after 20 minutes
- Standing
- The sister restaurant to Mazi, a few doors along the same street, with a vine covered courtyard
How to get in
Three rules, and together they are gentler than next door. Walk in space is deliberately held back, which is the opposite of Mazi. The table goes after twenty minutes rather than fifteen, and only if you have not called. But there is a rule the others do not have: bookings must be confirmed by four in the afternoon on the day, so a reservation made a week ago is not secure if you ignore the confirmation. The courtyard under vines is the reason people come, and the ouzo arrives whether you asked or not.
The one that stops serving early
OPSO, Marylebone
Open until half eleven, taking orders until half ten.
OPSO
- Address
- 10 Paddington Street, Marylebone, W1U 5QL
- Nearest
- Baker Street, six minutes. Bond Street, ten
- Hours
- Monday to Friday lunch midday to 4.45pm with last orders 3.30pm, dinner 4.45pm to 11.30pm with last orders 10.30pm. Saturday and Sunday brunch from 10am on the same lunch clock. Sunday dinner closes at 11pm with last orders at 10pm
- Booking
- 020 7487 5088 or reservations@opso.co.uk
- Standing
- Opened in Marylebone in 2014. Named after an ancient Greek word for a delicacy, with most ingredients supplied directly from Greece
How to get in
The gap between last orders and closing time is published here, which almost no London restaurant bothers to do, and it is wide: at lunch the kitchen stops at half three although the room runs to a quarter to five, a gap of seventy five minutes. At dinner it is an hour. So a late lunch has to be a table booked before half three, not a walk in at four. There is a marble communal table set between the ordinary tables in the dining room, which is worth asking for if you are two. The ground floor bar keeps Greek liqueurs for the cocktails.
What to know
Fifteen minutes at Mazi, twenty at Suzi Tros. Four doors apart, same owners, different mercy. Mazi cancels automatically. Suzi Tros wants a telephone call.
Confirm your Suzi Tros booking by 4pm. That is their rule and it applies on the day of the reservation, not when you made it.
Mazi runs two hour tables. Longer is possible but has to be arranged in advance, and groups over six are outside the rule anyway.
OPSO stops cooking long before it closes. Seventy five minutes at lunch, an hour at dinner. The door time is not the kitchen time, and they are one of the few in London who tell you both.
Hillgate Street is the trip. Two of the three restaurants here are on one short street three minutes from Notting Hill Gate, which means a failed booking at one is a thirty second walk from the other.
Everything here was taken from each restaurant’s own published information and rechecked on 28 September 2026. Arrival and cancellation rules are the details most likely to change, so confirm when you book.
Where to go next
The restaurants guide holds the wider field, and the other cuisine pages work the same way: Turkish, Lebanese, tapas and seafood.
Notting Hill covers the streets around Hillgate Street, and the Notting Hill restaurants cover the rest of that postcode. Marylebone covers Paddington Street.
Portobello Road Market is ten minutes north of Hillgate Street, and worth reading before you go, because it is really a Friday and Saturday market.
Questions we get asked
What are the best Greek restaurants in London?
Mazi at 12 to 14 Hillgate Street in Notting Hill, built around the Greek sharing table. Suzi Tros at number 18 on the same street, from the same owners, with a vine covered courtyard and walk in space kept back. And OPSO on Paddington Street in Marylebone, open since 2014, with most of its ingredients supplied directly from Greece.
How late can you arrive at a London restaurant booking?
It depends on the restaurant and the Greek rooms are a good illustration. Mazi in Notting Hill cancels a booking automatically if you are more than fifteen minutes late. Suzi Tros, four doors along under the same ownership, may release the table after twenty minutes, but only if you have not telephoned. Ring, in both cases.
Do London Greek restaurants take walk ins?
Suzi Tros on Hillgate Street deliberately keeps space back for walk ins alongside its bookings, which is unusual and published. Mazi a few doors away runs on two hour reserved slots instead. OPSO in Marylebone takes reservations by telephone and email. If you want to walk in, Suzi Tros is the one to aim at.
What time does OPSO stop serving?
Last orders are 3.30pm at lunch and 10.30pm at dinner from Monday to Friday, although the room stays open until 4.45pm and 11.30pm respectively. On Sunday dinner last orders are 10pm with the room closing at 11pm. The gap between last orders and closing runs to seventy five minutes at lunch, which is wider than most.
Where is the Greek area of London?
There is no single Greek quarter in the way Edgware Road is Lebanese or Kingsland Road Vietnamese. The closest thing is Hillgate Street in Notting Hill, which holds two Greek restaurants under the same ownership within four doors of each other, three minutes from Notting Hill Gate station. Marylebone has OPSO.
Do you have to confirm a restaurant booking in London?
At some. Suzi Tros in Notting Hill asks that bookings are confirmed no later than 4pm on the day of the reservation, which is a rule most people never encounter and which applies however far ahead you booked. Mazi, under the same ownership, asks instead for 24 hours notice of a cancellation.
