If you book axe throwing on Oxford Street you will not throw an axe. Boom Battle Bar’s Oxford Street site lists augmented reality axe throwing, and it is the one London venue missing from the operator’s own real axe throwing booking list. The other four are on it. That distinction is not made anywhere in the marketing and it is the whole decision.
Here is where the real axes are, what a session costs, and the rule about drinking that catches people out in a building that is also a bar.
What it costs
Axe throwing at Boom Battle Bar starts from 9 pounds a person, with the exact figure varying by group size and day of the week. That is the cheapest activity on any of these pages.
The bundle is the other route. From 27.50 pounds a head, available all week, you get a 30 minute game, two premium drinks including cocktails, and two street food plates or a burger each. Given a session alone starts at 9 pounds, you are paying around 18 pounds for the food and two drinks, which is reasonable for central London.
Rage Remedies in Romford charges 40 pounds for 30 minutes of axe throwing, 40 pounds for knife throwing, and 45 pounds for both. Doing both costs five pounds more than doing either, which is the best value on that site and the only knife throwing lane we found in London.
The session length, which is not your throwing time
Same trap as the crazy golf, and Boom states it plainly in its FAQ rather than hiding it.
You choose a 30 or 60 minute session, and that is the entirety of the experience rather than the time you spend throwing. Briefing, instruction and taking turns all come out of it. With six people in a 30 minute slot, the arithmetic is not generous.
For a group of more than four, book the hour.
The drinking rule
This is the one people assume they know, because the venue is a bar.
Boom’s own guidance is to hold the booze until after your session, with no drinking before or during the activity, and it notes this varies by venue. So the sensible order is axes first, bar afterwards, and a question at the desk if your group has already had one.
The venues are strictly over 18 after 7pm anyway, and axe throwing is 18 and over at all times regardless of the hour.
What to wear
Short and worth reading before you leave the house. Closed toe shoes without a heel, and long hair tied back. Open toe shoes and sandals are refused, which is the same rule as the rage rooms and for the same reason.
Axe throwing is described by the operator as generally safe during pregnancy but more physically demanding than its other games, with the usual advice to ask a GP or midwife first.
Where the real axes are
Boom Battle Bar has five London venues. Four of them take axe throwing bookings.
Aldgate East, which the company also markets as London Liverpool Street. The nearest station is Aldgate East, about five minutes on foot, and the operator’s own axe throwing list calls the venue Aldgate East while its site navigation calls it Liverpool Street. If you are meeting people, give them Aldgate East.
Ealing. Wandsworth. The O2. All three take axe throwing bookings.
Oxford Street does not. Its game list offers augmented reality axe throwing, shuffleboard, augmented reality darts, beer and prosecco pong and crazier golf. It is also the venue that houses an Escape Hunt escape room, which is covered on our escape rooms page.
The nearest venues outside London are Lakeside and Watford.
Rage Remedies is at Unit D, Brooklands House, Brooklands Approach, Romford RM1 1DX, and is the only one of these that also has a rage room and a paint splatter room on the same site. Our rage rooms page covers the rest of what is there.
Whistle Punks has gone
For years the answer to this question in London was Whistle Punks. Checked on 5 October 2026, whistlepunks.com no longer resolves to the company: it redirects to an unrelated American website, and whistlepunks.co.uk does not respond at all.
We are keeping the name here because it is still the one in most London axe throwing articles, and the useful answer is that its web presence is gone and the bookable lanes are the ones above.
How to choose
Cheapest: Boom Battle Bar from 9 pounds a head, at Aldgate East, Ealing, Wandsworth or The O2.
With food and drinks included: the 27.50 pound bundle, which is available every day of the week.
Knives as well as axes: Rage Remedies in Romford, 45 pounds for both, which is the only place we found doing it.
Not Oxford Street, unless augmented reality is what you wanted.
For the rest of the category, the activity bars cover darts and shuffleboard, and the adult activities page covers the wider list.

Questions we get asked
How much is axe throwing in London?
From 9 pounds a person at Boom Battle Bar, with the exact price depending on group size and the day. Its all inclusive bundle, which adds two premium drinks and two street food plates or a burger to a 30 minute game, starts at 27.50 pounds a head. Rage Remedies in Romford charges 40 pounds for 30 minutes.
Where can you throw real axes in London?
At four Boom Battle Bar venues: Aldgate East, which the company also calls London Liverpool Street, plus Ealing, Wandsworth and The O2. The Oxford Street site is not on the operator's axe throwing booking list and offers augmented reality axe throwing instead. Rage Remedies in Romford has real axe and knife lanes.
Is there an age limit for axe throwing in London?
Yes. Boom Battle Bar states that axe throwing is 18 and over at all times, separately from the fact that its venues are over 18s only after 7pm.
Can you drink alcohol while axe throwing?
The operator's guidance is to hold the booze until after your session, with no drinking before or during the activity, and it notes that this varies by venue. Book the axes first and the bar afterwards, and ask at the desk if your group has already had a drink.
How long is an axe throwing session?
Thirty or sixty minutes, and that is the entirety of the experience rather than the time each person spends throwing. Briefing and taking turns come out of the same slot, so a group of more than four should book the hour.
What should you wear for axe throwing?
Closed toe shoes without a heel, and long hair tied back. Open toe shoes and sandals are refused.
