The first thing to know about rage rooms in London is geographic, and nobody puts it at the top. There is no rage room in central London. The three that take bookings are in Eltham, Romford and Croydon, which means this is a journey rather than something you tack onto an evening in town.
The second thing is the price, and it is stranger. Forty five minutes of smashing costs 100 pounds at one of them and 45 pounds at another. Same city, same activity, more than double.
What it costs, which is the whole decision
All three publish their prices. Read them side by side and the gap is hard to miss.
Smash It Rage Rooms charges 25 pounds for 15 minutes, 50 pounds for 30 minutes and 100 pounds for 45 minutes. The packages are named Bronze, Silver and Gold, and the contents go up with the price: small smashables at the bottom, plates and cups and electronics in the middle, bottles and large televisions at the top.
Rage Remedies charges 30 pounds for 30 minutes, 45 pounds for 45 minutes and 60 pounds for an hour, which is a pound a minute all the way up and the simplest pricing of the three.
Rage Cage UK charges 25 pounds a head for a session of 15 minutes to an hour, and scales it straight: 50 pounds for two, 75 for three, 100 for four. A party of up to ten starts at 500 pounds.
So the honest summary is that Rage Remedies is the cheapest way to get a full session, Rage Cage is the cheapest way to go alone, and Smash It is the one that costs most at every length.
Smash It Rage Rooms, Eltham
At 7 to 9 The Mound, SE9 3BA. Open Monday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm, and closed on Sundays. That six o’clock finish is the detail that catches people out: this is not an evening activity.
Two booking rules worth knowing before you plan a group. Only solo sessions can be bought online. Groups of two or more have to get in touch to book, which the site says under every one of the three packages. And walk ins are accepted, though availability is not guaranteed.
The minimum age is 12, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
On what to wear, the venue is specific rather than vague: full length bottoms, a long sleeved top, and flat closed shoes. No open shoes, no flip flops, no sandals. All protective equipment is provided, and so are the tools, which run to crowbars, hammers and mallets. You cannot bring your own tool, and you cannot bring your own things to smash without asking first, because some items are refused on safety grounds.
The business was started by Amelia and Darren Tofts after their son’s experience of PTSD and the wait for mental health support, which the company says plainly on its own About page rather than burying.
Rage Remedies, Romford
At Unit D, Brooklands House, Brooklands Approach, RM1 1DX. The pricing is the clearest of the three and the room is not the only thing on offer: there are axe and knife throwing lanes and a paint splatter room on the same site, which makes it the one worth travelling to if you want the afternoon to have more than one activity in it.
The throwing lanes are priced separately. Axe throwing is 40 pounds for 30 minutes, knife throwing is 40 pounds, and the two together are 45 pounds, so doing both costs five pounds more than doing either. There is also a combat room, which appears only inside the VIP package rather than as a booking of its own.
The paint splatter room runs on the same ladder as the rage room: 30 pounds for 30 minutes, 45 for 45, 60 for an hour.
There is no telephone number published. Contact is by email or the form on the site, which is worth knowing if you want to ask something the day before.
Rage Cage UK, Croydon
The per head pricing makes this the one for a solo session, at 25 pounds, and it does not punish you for coming alone the way a per room price does.
Three formats: a concrete themed room for straight smashing, a neon paint room, and a couples session that combines the two. The paint side is priced identically to the rage side at every group size.
The site lists locker rooms, toilets and showers on site, which neither of the other two mention and which matters more than it sounds if you are going somewhere afterwards.
It publishes no street address. The location is given as a creative studios in Croydon, with directions following the booking, so do not set out expecting to find it from the website alone.
What actually happens
The format is the same everywhere. You arrive, you are given protective gear and a safety briefing, you choose a tool, and you are shown into a room of things that are meant to be broken. Staff clear up afterwards.
The useful planning note is that the sessions are short. Fifteen minutes is a real option at two of the three venues, and 45 minutes is the longest most people book. Treat it as one item in an afternoon rather than the afternoon.
How to choose
Going alone: Rage Cage UK, at 25 pounds for a session of up to an hour.
Want a proper length session for sensible money: Rage Remedies, where an hour is 60 pounds and the axe lanes are next door.
Live in south east London and want it over with: Smash It, accepting that it is the dearest and shuts at six.
For things that work the same way but are easier to reach, the activity bars cover the bookable-by-the-hour end of a night out, and the adult activities page covers the rest.

Questions we get asked
How much is a rage room in London?
Between 25 and 100 pounds depending on where you go and for how long. Rage Cage UK in Croydon is 25 pounds a head for up to an hour. Rage Remedies in Romford is 30 pounds for 30 minutes and 60 pounds for an hour. Smash It in Eltham is 25 pounds for 15 minutes, 50 for 30 and 100 for 45.
Is there a rage room in central London?
No. The three that take bookings are in Eltham in the south east, Romford in the east and Croydon in the south, so all of them involve a journey out of the centre.
What is the age limit for a rage room in London?
Smash It Rage Rooms sets a minimum age of 12, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Age rules differ by venue, so check before booking for a younger group.
What should you wear to a rage room?
Full length bottoms, a long sleeved top and flat closed shoes. Smash It specifically refuses open shoes, flip flops and sandals. Protective equipment is provided by the venue, as are the tools, which include crowbars, hammers and mallets.
Can you book a rage room for two people?
Yes, but not always online. Smash It sells only solo sessions through its website and asks groups of two or more to contact it directly. Rage Cage UK and Rage Remedies both take group bookings online, with Rage Cage charging 25 pounds a head.
Can you bring your own things to smash?
Not without asking. Smash It refuses certain items on safety grounds and asks you to contact it before your visit if there is something particular you want to bring. You cannot bring your own tool either, since the venue supplies those.
