A dimly lit prison corridor lined with barred cells

You bring your own bottle to Alcotraz, and the rule that trips people up is that it has to be sealed. The venue operates a closed bottle policy: the bottle must be new and unopened, and it recommends screw tops over corks. Turn up with a half-finished bottle from home and you have a problem at the door.

The conceit is that you smuggle your spirit into a prison-themed cocktail bar past live actors, and the mixologists then build your drinks from it. The basic ticket is from £51 per person and includes four cocktails. Non-drinkers get four mocktails instead.

Everything below comes from the venue’s own pages, read on 12 October 2026.

Dress for a jumpsuit

You change into an orange jumpsuit on arrival, which the venue provides. Its own advice is to wear light clothing underneath and to avoid skirts and dresses where possible. That is a genuinely useful instruction and it is not on the ticket.

The experience runs 1 hour 45 minutes and is strictly 18 and over.

No refunds, but you can move

Bookings cannot be refunded or cancelled. You can move to another day with notice, and the notice depends on your group size: 48 hours for five people or fewer, 96 hours for six or more. Changes go through the venue by email rather than a booking system.

Every guest needs their own ticket, and a cell holds six or seven. Groups of eight or more can sometimes reserve and pay later if the date is at least two months out, and Klarna splitting is available on London bookings of £350 or more.

Step-free access is timetabled

The cell block is wheelchair accessible, but fully step-free access is limited to specific sentences: 11.30, 13.45, 16.10, 18.35 and 21.00. If you need step-free, you are choosing from five slots a day rather than the full timetable, so book early.

It is at Unit 3B, 127 Hackney Road, E2 8GY, in Shoreditch.
