The guided tour of the Emirates on a matchday costs less than walking round it on your own on a quiet Tuesday.

The standard self-guided stadium tour is 34 pounds. The Guided Matchday Tour starts at 20 pounds. A guide, on the day the ground is alive, for fourteen pounds less than a handset and an empty bowl.

That is the opposite of how every other attraction in London prices itself, and nothing on the booking page draws attention to it.

What each tour costs

Stadium Tour, self-guided: adults 34 pounds. Concessions, meaning seniors over 65, students and disabled visitors, are 29 pounds. Children aged 4 to 15 are 24 pounds, and infants under 4 go free.

Guided Matchday Tour: from 20 pounds.

History Walk and Stadium Tour: 46 pounds.

Guided Legend Tour: 55 pounds.

VIP Legend Experience: 425 pounds.

Private and bespoke tours are arranged on enquiry.

One discount worth claiming: Arsenal members get 10 per cent off every tour. If someone in the group is a member, book through them.

What the standard ticket actually gets you

More of the building than most stadium tours allow, and the list is specific rather than vague.

The Directors Box, the Diamond Club, the Players Entrance, both the home and away dressing rooms, the Players Tunnel, pitchside and the home dugout, the touchline, the flash interview rooms, the press conference room and the media lounge.

The away dressing room is the one other clubs often leave out, and it is usually the more interesting of the two.

Two things are included that are easy to miss. Entry to the Arsenal Museum is free with the tour, and so are a pair of branded earphones for the handset.

Souvenir photographs are charged separately.

The handset, and the thing worth knowing about it

The self-guided audio runs in seven languages, and it includes British Sign Language.

BSL on a stadium tour handset is rare enough to be worth stating plainly. If that matters to anyone in your group, this is the London stadium tour that has thought about it.

At the time of checking

The tour includes the chance to see the Premier League trophy, which Arsenal currently hold. Trophies move, so treat that as a this-season feature rather than a permanent fixture.

How to choose

Cheapest, and arguably the best: the Guided Matchday Tour from 20 pounds, which puts you in the ground when it has an atmosphere.

Flexible and on your own time: the 34 pound self-guided tour, with the museum included.

With a member in the party: book through them and take 10 per cent off whichever you choose.

With small children: under 4s are free, and 4 to 15 is 24 pounds.

For the other grounds, Stamford Bridge and Twickenham both run their own tours, and Wembley is the national one.
