Two cheap lunches run at once, and the £7.50 student price only exists at two London branches.

A margherita pizza topped with fresh basil leaves

Pizza Pilgrims has two cheap lunch deals running at once, and which one is better depends on which branch you walk into.

Midweek Margheritas: £10 for a classic Margherita, Monday to Thursday, 12pm to 3pm, at every pizzeria nationwide.

Student offer: £7.50 for a Margherita or an Nduja, Monday to Thursday, 12pm to 5pm, dine-in only, at selected branches. A valid student ID is required.

So a student saves £2.50 and gets two extra hours. But only two London branches take part: Euston and Shoreditch. Everywhere else in London, a student is better off on the £10 deal, because the cheaper one is not available.

Their own page disagrees with itself about where

Worth checking before you travel for the £7.50.

The student offer page lists the participating branches twice, and the two lists do not match. The summary line names Brighton, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, London Euston and Shoreditch. The body text names all of those plus Bristol.

One list has ten locations, the other has nine. The summary line also spells Brighton as “Brigthon”.

Pizza Pilgrims say themselves that the list changes and to check back before dining, which is fair. Treat the longer list as the likely one and ring ahead if Bristol is your branch.

£12 buys the whole lunch

The add-on is the part worth knowing, because it covers two things rather than one.

For an extra £2 you get a soft drink and a crust dipper. The dipper choices are Caesar, Calabrian Chilli, Garlic & Herb, Hot Honey or Truffle.

So £10 plus £2 is a Margherita, a drink and a dip for £12, Monday to Thursday between noon and 3pm. For a sit-down lunch in central London that is close to the floor.

The £10 pizza is the Classic Margherita: San Marzano DOP tomatoes, Fior di Latte mozzarella, basil and olive oil on a 72-hour double-fermented dough. Upgrades to a Bufala Margherita or a Burrata Margherita are available at a higher price.

Midweek Margheritas launched on Monday 21 September and runs at every branch.

Walk in, or book

Walk-ins are always available. Their own wording: secure your spot, but just rock up if you prefer.

That is a more relaxed position than most London restaurants of this size, and it matters for a lunchtime offer with a three-hour window.

Groups of 8 or more get feasting menus from £25 per person.

Every branch has different things in it

Pizza Pilgrims tags each pizzeria with its own facilities, and some of those are unique to one site. Worth picking your branch by what is in it rather than by what is nearest.

Camden, 40 to 42 Parkway, NW1 7AH. Pizza masterclasses, the Pizza Academy and a private event space. This is the one for a class or a party.

West India Quay. A Pizza Playground, and large party bookings.

Brighton, 35 Ship Street, BN1 1AB. A football pitch.

Cambridge, 59 Sidney Street, CB2 3HX. Bocche Court games.

Birmingham, Grand Central Shopping Centre, New Street B2 4BF.

Bristol, 29 Corn Street, BS1 1HT.

Common tags across most branches: vegan options, halal options available, family friendly, takeaway available, bookings available, dog friendly and easy disabled access. Several add outdoor seating.

The halal tag is worth highlighting because few pizza chains publish it branch by branch, and the student-offer pizzas are available vegan too.

What else happens there

The events programme is broader than a pizzeria needs to be: comedy, drag nights, quizzes, bottomless pizza, an art club and pizza masterclasses, with events added monthly.

There are also kids’ pizza parties, catering, click and collect, pizza at home kits and gift vouchers.

Pizza Pilgrims is a B Corp, and runs a Dip to Donate scheme.

How to plan it

Cheapest, if you are a student at Euston or Shoreditch: £7.50, noon to 5pm, Monday to Thursday, dine-in with ID.

Cheapest everywhere else: £10 Midweek Margherita, noon to 3pm, Monday to Thursday.

A full lunch: add £2 for a drink and a dipper, so £12.

Friday to Sunday: neither offer runs. Both are Monday to Thursday only.

A class or a private party: Camden, which has the Pizza Academy.

With children: West India Quay has the Pizza Playground.

A group of 8 or more: feasting menus from £25 a head.

No booking: walk in. They say so themselves.

Two cheap lunches run at once: 10 pounds nationwide and 7.50 for students, but the student price is only at Euston and Shoreditch in London. Their own student offer page lists the participating branches twice and the lists differ by one city, with Bristol in one and not the other. Branch facilities differ: Camden has the Pizza Academy and West India Quay a Pizza Playground.

Where to go next

The pizza page compares the rest, and cheap eats covers the other sub-£15 lunches.

Padella is the other place where branch choice changes the price, and the Italian restaurants cover the step up.
