You cannot have a drink before you throw an axe. At a bar whose entire proposition is drinking while you play.
“BORING BUT IMPORTANT: Axe Throwing is 18+ at all times. Hold the booze until after your session, no drinking before or during this activity.”
That is Boom Battle Bar’s own wording, with an asterisk noting it varies by venue. It is the single most useful thing to know about the place, because the obvious plan, cocktails and axes, is the one plan the house rules forbid.
Order the drinks for afterwards. Every other game here, pool, darts, shuffleboard, crazier golf, beer pong and karaoke, is yours to play with a glass in hand. The axes are not.
The most central branch does not have axe throwing at all
Worth checking before you pick a venue for it.
Boom’s axe throwing page carries its own venue selector, and London Oxford Street is not on it. The London entries are Aldgate East, Ealing, The O2 and Wandsworth.
Note the first of those. The venue has its own page at boombattlebar.com as London Liverpool Street, with an E1 8QG postcode, but the axe throwing selector calls it Aldgate East. Same building, two names on the same website, which is worth knowing if you are searching their booking system and cannot find it.
So for axe throwing in central London it is the Liverpool Street site, and for everything else Oxford Street is the closer one.
Five London venues, and the hours are nothing alike
This is the real diff, and the gap between the earliest and latest opener is four and a half hours.
Oxford Street: Monday to Wednesday 11.30am to 11.30pm. Thursday 11.30am to 12.30am. Friday 11.30am to 1am. Saturday 10am to 1am. Sunday 11.30am to 10.30pm.
The O2: Monday to Thursday midday to midnight. Friday midday to 1am. Saturday 10am to 1am. Sunday midday to 10.30pm.
Ealing: Monday to Thursday midday to 11pm. Friday and Saturday midday to midnight. Sunday midday to 11pm.
Liverpool Street: Monday to Wednesday 1pm to 11pm. Thursday 1pm to midnight. Friday and Saturday midday to midnight. Sunday 1pm to 11pm.
Wandsworth: Monday to Thursday 4pm to 11pm. Friday 4pm to midnight. Saturday midday to midnight. Sunday midday to 10pm.
Three things fall out of it.
Only Oxford Street and The O2 run to 1am, on Friday and Saturday, and they are also the only two that open at 10am on a Saturday. If the night is meant to be late, those are the two.
Wandsworth does not open until 4pm from Monday to Friday, which rules out a weekday lunchtime or an after-work early start there.
Liverpool Street opens at 1pm on four days, an hour and a half later than Oxford Street, which is the opposite of what the City location suggests.
Sunday is the day to check
Every venue treats Sunday differently and none of them treat it well.
Wandsworth closes at 10pm. The O2 and Oxford Street at 10.30pm. Ealing and Liverpool Street at 11pm.
Against midnight or 1am on a Saturday, that is a short evening everywhere. Wandsworth on a Sunday is a six hour day, midday to 10pm.
Where the five are
Oxford Street: W1D 1BP. Tottenham Court Road.
Liverpool Street: E1 8QG. Liverpool Street and Aldgate East, which explains the second name.
The O2: SE10 0DY. North Greenwich.
Ealing: W5 5FA. Ealing Broadway.
Wandsworth: Ram Quarter, 9 Barley Walk, SW18 1UL. Wandsworth Town.
One small oddity worth flagging honestly: the phone number published on the Wandsworth page is 0117 990 2236, which is a Bristol code. The others are London numbers: Oxford Street 020 7286 0404, Liverpool Street 0203 745 0754, The O2 0208 858 1111, Ealing 0203 161 8176.
Seven games, and which rooms you need to book
The standing lineup across the venues:
Axe throwing. Augmented reality darts. American pool. Crazier golf. Shuffleboard. Beer and prosecco pong. BOOM BOX Karaoke.
The karaoke is in private rooms, booked separately, which is the format worth knowing about if you have been looking at the dedicated karaoke bars. Not every game runs at every venue, and the venue page lists what is in each.
There is a Monday to Thursday offer that needs no booking, bottomless brunch, cocktail masterclasses, date nights, school holiday programming, live sport at The O2, and a student offer.
The O2 branch markets itself for pre-show drinks and activities, which is the sensible use of it: it is inside the arena complex, so it fills the two hours before a gig.
How to plan it
Axe throwing: drink afterwards, not before. Strictly 18 plus, every venue, every time.
Axe throwing in central London: the Liverpool Street site, listed as Aldgate East on the axe throwing page. Oxford Street does not offer it.
Late night: Oxford Street or The O2, the only two open to 1am on Friday and Saturday.
Saturday daytime: Oxford Street or The O2 again, the only two that open at 10am.
Wandsworth: afternoons only Monday to Friday, since it opens at 4pm.
Before a gig at The O2: this is the two hour filler, open to midnight most nights.
Karaoke: book the private room, which is a separate booking from the games.

Questions we get asked
Can you drink while axe throwing at Boom Battle Bar?
No. Boom Battle Bar states that axe throwing is 18 plus at all times and asks you to hold the booze until after your session, with no drinking before or during the activity, noting that this varies by venue. Every other game there can be played with a drink in hand.
Which Boom Battle Bar in London has axe throwing?
Four of the five: the Liverpool Street site, which the axe throwing page lists as Aldgate East, plus Ealing, The O2 and Wandsworth. London Oxford Street does not appear on Boom's axe throwing venue selector, so for axes in central London it is the Liverpool Street venue.
What are Boom Battle Bar's opening hours in London?
They differ at every branch. Oxford Street runs 11.30am to 11.30pm Monday to Wednesday and to 1am on Friday, The O2 midday to midnight most nights and to 1am on Friday, Ealing midday to 11pm, Liverpool Street 1pm to 11pm Monday to Wednesday, and Wandsworth only from 4pm Monday to Friday. Oxford Street and The O2 are the only two that open at 10am on a Saturday.
Which Boom Battle Bar is open latest?
Oxford Street and The O2, both to 1am on Friday and Saturday. Everywhere else closes at 11pm or midnight. On a Sunday the picture reverses and the latest are Ealing and Liverpool Street at 11pm, with Wandsworth closing earliest at 10pm.
What games are at Boom Battle Bar?
Axe throwing, augmented reality darts, American pool, crazier golf, shuffleboard, beer and prosecco pong, and BOOM BOX Karaoke in private rooms. Not every game runs at every venue, and the karaoke rooms are booked separately from the games.
Do you need to book Boom Battle Bar?
For games, yes, and bookings are made per game online. There is a Monday to Thursday offer that needs no booking. Private karaoke rooms are a separate booking, and birthday, hen and stag packages are available at participating venues.
