There are five different cheap routes into Wicked and the one that costs the least needs no queue, no app and no ID. It needs you to be online on a Wednesday morning.
Every Wednesday at 10am, the 24 Front Row seats go on sale online for every performance the following week, at £29.50 with no booking fees.
That is the cheapest published price for the show, it is bookable a week ahead, and it is the only cheap route that does not involve turning up in person or watching an app.
All five cheap routes, and which is actually best
Front Row, £29.50, no fees. 24 seats, online, Wednesdays at 10am for the week ahead.
TodayTix Daily Dozen, £29.50, no fees. A limited number of digital day seats released at 10am on every performance day, available only through the TodayTix app.
Student standby, £35. In person at the Apollo Victoria box office on performance days, with student ID. Maximum two per ID.
Standby concessions, £39.50. In person on performance days for senior citizens and Equity, BECTU and MU members. Maximum two per ID.
School and education groups, from £19.50, with free teacher tickets.
Now the part worth noticing. The student price is £35 and the Front Row price is £29.50. A student who goes to the box office with their ID pays five pounds fifty more than someone who booked online on a Wednesday. The concession is the worse deal, and nothing on the page tells you so.
Both standby prices are also strictly at the box office team’s discretion, with the seat decided by availability. The £29.50 routes give you a known seat.
The latecomer rule is harsher than most
Latecomers can only be admitted at a suitable break in the performance, which is approximately 25 minutes after curtain-up.
So arriving five minutes late means standing outside for twenty. There are no refunds or exchanges for missing the start.
Doors open 90 minutes before the performance, with bars and kiosks. The auditorium itself opens about 55 minutes before.
Times, and the day it does not run
Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm.
There is no performance on Monday, and the box office is closed that day too.
Box office hours: Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 7.45pm, Sunday 10am to 3pm, Monday closed. Which means the in-person standby routes are available on six days, not seven.
Running time 2 hours 45 minutes, including one twenty-minute interval. A 7.30pm start finishes around 10.15pm.
Age rules, which are stricter than the recommendation
The recommendation is 7 and over. The rules are firmer than that.
Babies and children under 5 cannot be admitted to the venue at all.
Anyone aged 15 or under must be seated next to an accompanying adult of 18 or over.
Everyone attending needs a ticket regardless of age, so a lap is not an option even if the child were old enough.
The production uses loud noises, flashing lights, smoke effects and strobe lighting.
Practical notes people get wrong
The venue is cashless throughout. Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay only.
Suitcases and large bags cannot be admitted, and security may search bags on arrival. If you are coming straight off a train at Victoria with luggage, that is a problem, and Victoria station is the building opposite.
Exchanges can be requested up to 48 hours before the performance, to a performance of equal or higher value, subject to availability and possibly a fee. Inside 48 hours, nothing.
If a performance is cancelled for any reason, ticketholders get a free exchange, a credit voucher or a refund.
Where it is
The Apollo Victoria Theatre, 17 Wilton Road, London SW1V 1LG, directly opposite Victoria mainline and underground stations, on the Victoria, District and Circle lines. Victoria Coach Station is close by.
The auditorium holds more than 2,000 seats on two levels, Stalls and Dress Circle. Wicked has been there since its first London performance in 2006.
Being opposite Victoria makes this the easiest West End theatre to reach from Gatwick, and the awkward one to reach with a suitcase.
How to plan it
Cheapest: be online at 10am on a Wednesday for the £29.50 Front Row seats, for any performance the following week.
Second cheapest: the TodayTix app at 10am on the day, same £29.50, fewer seats.
If you are a student: book the Front Row instead. It is cheaper than the student standby and you get to choose the performance.
Arrive by 7.05pm for a 7.30pm start, because the auditorium opens 55 minutes before and latecomers wait 25 minutes.
Not on a Monday, and not with a suitcase.

Latecomers wait about 25 minutes for a break in the performance. Under 5s cannot be admitted at all, everyone needs a ticket regardless of age, and the venue is cashless with no suitcases allowed.
Where to go next
Les Misérables and Hamilton are the other two long-runners, with different age rules and interval lengths.
The West End page covers the rest, and Pre-theatre dinner cover dinner before the 7.30pm curtain.
Questions we get asked
How do you get cheap tickets for Wicked in London?
The cheapest published route is the Front Row release: 24 seats go on sale online every Wednesday at 10am for all performances the following week, at £29.50 with no fees. The TodayTix Daily Dozen offers digital day seats at the same price on every performance day at 10am. Student standby is £35 and other concessions £39.50, both in person only.
Does Wicked have day seats?
Yes, two kinds. The TodayTix Daily Dozen releases a limited number of digital day seats at 10am on each performance day at £29.50 through the app only. Separately, the 24 Front Row seats are released online every Wednesday at 10am for the following week, also £29.50.
How long is Wicked and does it have an interval?
2 hours 45 minutes in total, including one twenty-minute interval. A 7.30pm performance finishes at around 10.15pm.
What is the age limit for Wicked?
The recommendation is 7 and over, but babies and children under 5 cannot be admitted to the venue at all. Anyone aged 15 or under must be seated next to an accompanying adult of 18 or over, and everyone needs their own ticket regardless of age.
What happens if you are late for Wicked?
Latecomers can only be admitted at a suitable break in the performance, which is approximately 25 minutes after curtain-up. There are no refunds or exchanges, so arriving a few minutes late can mean waiting twenty outside.
Is there a performance of Wicked on Monday?
No. Wicked runs Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm with matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm. There is no Monday performance and the box office is closed on Mondays.
Can you take a suitcase to the Apollo Victoria?
No. Suitcases and large bags cannot be admitted, and security may search bags on arrival. This catches people out because the theatre is directly opposite Victoria station.
