Westfield London: Open to Nine, Except the Six Hour Sunday

Hours, the Puttshack and bowling that stay open after the shops shut, and which of London's two Westfields this actually is.

The bright interior of a large shopping centre with escalators

Westfield London closes at 9pm six nights a week and at 6pm on a Sunday, and the Sunday is the one that catches people out.

Monday to Saturday: 10am to 9pm. Sunday: midday to 6pm.

That Sunday is six hours against eleven, the same six consecutive hours every large shop in England and Wales is limited to. Arrive at four on a Sunday and you have two hours, not five.

Parking: 3 pounds for an hour, 25 for a day

There are over 4,000 spaces across three car parks, A, B and C, at Ariel Way, W12 7GF. Entry runs 5am to 3am and exit is 24 hours, every day. Maximum height is 2.1 metres.

The tariff rises steeply and charges more at weekends. Up to an hour is £3 on weekdays and £3.50 at weekends and bank holidays. Two hours is £6 or £6.50, four hours £8.50 or £9.50, and six hours £9.50 or £11.50.

Then it flattens: six to eight hours costs the same £9.50 on a weekday as four to six does, so a long afternoon costs no more than a short one. Eight to ten hours is £11.50 or £13, ten to twelve £13 or £15, twelve to sixteen £20 and sixteen to twenty four £25, both flat all week.

The practical reading is that two short visits cost more than one long one, and that a weekend trip carries a pound or two premium at every tier.

What else is in the car parks

Motorcycle parking is free and secure, with lockers, in Car Park A on level minus one. There are Tesla superchargers and other EV charging, Blue Badge and disabled bays, parent and child bays, bicycle parking, a car wash and a tyre pump.

Car park support is on 0203 371 2405 during centre hours. Car Park A is the one to aim for if you are heading to M&S, TOCA Social, the Vue cinema or the Village, entered from the West Cross Route and Holland Park roundabout, or from Wood Lane via the valet entrance.

Where it is

Ariel Way, Shepherd’s Bush, London W12 7SL, on 0203 371 2300.

Shepherd’s Bush and White City stations both serve it, and it is one of the better-connected shopping centres in the country, which is a large part of why it is so busy.

There are two Westfields in London. This is the White City one. Westfield Stratford City is the other, in east London, and they are different enough that turning up at the wrong one is a real afternoon lost.

It is not only shops

This is the part worth knowing, because it turns a shopping trip into an evening.

The centre holds cinemas, indoor mini golf, bowling and interactive football, alongside the retail.

The mini golf is Puttshack, and we have its prices: 13 pounds a round at White City, or 18 pounds for unlimited play Sunday to Thursday. Our crazy golf page sets that against the rest of London, including the fact that the Bank branch of the same company charges a pound more.

Given the 9pm close, a film or a round of golf after the shops shut is the obvious way to use the place, and almost nobody plans it that way.

The shops

The range runs from the high street to the luxury end in one building: Zara, H&M, Uniqlo, Mango, Bershka and Stradivarius at one end, and Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, Bucherer and Longchamp at the other, with Apple, Nike, Adidas, Sephora, Space NK and Marks and Spencer in between.

The luxury section is called The Village and sits as its own area within the centre, which also now carries healthcare and wellness services.

It is the practical answer to a wet afternoon with a list, and the Oxford Street alternative when you do not want to walk a mile of pavement in the rain.

Student Week

The centre runs a Student Week among its events, which is worth checking before a term-time visit rather than after one. Its events listing is the place that announces it.

How to plan it

Weekday evening: the quietest hours, up to 9pm, with the cinema and the golf open after the shops thin out.

Sunday: get there by two, because six o’clock comes quickly from a midday start.

With children: Puttshack or the bowling, both inside, both bookable.

Wrong Westfield: this is White City. Stratford is the other one.

Things to do in the rain covers the rest of the indoor options, and shopping in London covers the wider picture.
