A cricket match under way at a sunlit ground

The MCC Museum at Lord’s holds one of the great sports collections in the world, and what it costs you depends entirely on which day you turn up.

On an ordinary day the museum can only be entered by buying a tour, at 32.95 pounds.

On a match day it is open to anyone with a ticket for that day’s play: free during Internationals, The Hundred and Vitality Blast matches, and 5 pounds, or 3 concession, during everything else including County Championship and MCC fixtures.

So a County Championship ticket plus 5 pounds gets you into the same museum that otherwise costs 32.95. That is the single most useful thing on this page.

The tour prices

2026 prices for the standard guided tour:

Adult: 32.95 pounds.

Senior over 60, student with ID, and accessible tickets: 26.95 pounds, with a carer going free.

Child aged 5 to 15: 22.95 pounds.

Under 5s are free, but must still be included in the booking for capacity and safety reasons. Leave them off and the numbers will not match at the gate.

The guided tour runs 100 minutes.

Tour Plus, and who it is not for

Lord’s Tour Plus is from 57.95 pounds and runs 110 to 120 minutes.

It adds a complimentary Lord’s Guidebook and access to behind-the-scenes areas rarely open to the public, and the group is limited to 14 guests.

Two conditions matter. It is 12 years and over, so it is not a family option. And at nearly double the standard price for twenty more minutes, the value is the small group and the extra rooms rather than the time.

What you see

The Long Room, the Barclays Media Centre and the MCC Museum.

The Long Room is the one people come for and the Media Centre is the one they remember: a pod on stilts that looks like nothing else in English sport.

Private tours can be booked any day of the week, which is the way round the fixed tour times if the dates do not work. There is also a Players’ Dining Experience that combines a tour with lunch, and a Beyond the Boundary option.

Enquiries go to tours@mcc.org.uk or 020 7616 8595.

Where it is

St John’s Wood, north London, with St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line the nearest station.

It is a short walk from Marylebone and not far from Hampstead Heath, which makes a reasonable day if you are coming across town for it.

How to plan it

Want the museum cheaply: buy a County Championship ticket and pay 5 pounds, or go to an international and pay nothing.

Want the Long Room and the Media Centre: the 32.95 pound guided tour, which is the only way into those on a non-match day.

With children: the standard tour, because Tour Plus is 12 and over.

Dates not working: a private tour, bookable any day of the week.
