A Westminster Abbey ticket costs £32 and can be made to cover three visits, for nothing, if you buy it in the right place.
Buy online through the Westminster Abbey website and you can upgrade your ticket to an annual pass free of charge, letting you visit three times for the price of one.
The upgrade is done by a member of the Visitor Experience team while you are there, and you do not need to pre-book the later visits. So one £32 ticket becomes £10.67 a visit.
The catch is where you bought it. Promotional tickets, including Highlights and Lates, and any ticket bought through a third party cannot be upgraded.
That is the whole decision. Book direct and ask at the desk, and you have three visits. Book through a reseller at the same price or more, and you have one.
A family ticket costs the same as one adult
Look at these two lines together, because the Abbey lists them without comment.
Adults: £32.
Families, one adult and one child: £32.
Identical. And a child aged 6 to 17 bought separately is £14. So an adult and a child buying individually pay £46, and the family ticket is £32.
If you are one adult bringing one child, the family ticket saves you £14, and there is no reason ever to buy the two separately.
Every published price
Adults £32.
Families, one adult and one child, £32.
Adults 65 and over £29.
Students £29.
Children 6 to 17 £14.
Children 0 to 5 free.
Association members free.
Concessionary categories are listed separately for disabled visitors and their essential companion, Universal Credit, Westminster residents, serving UK Armed Forces personnel and NHS staff. There is also a 2 for 1 National Rail offer, and the Church Pass, Go City London Pass and Westminster City Save card are all accepted.
Entry is free for prayer and for services
Worth stating plainly, because it is listed as a category rather than as a price.
Visiting for individual prayer and attending a daily service are separate from paid admission. Visiting clergy are also listed separately.
This is a working church, which is also why the admission hours are short and change from day to day.
The shop stays open three hours after the Abbey shuts
The oddest line on the timetable, and useful if you are nearby late.
Checked on Monday 5 October 2026:
General Admittance: 9.30am to 3.30pm. This includes the Cloisters, College Garden, Chapter House and the Pyx Chamber.
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries: 10am to 3pm. Half an hour later in, half an hour earlier out.
St Margaret’s Church: 11am to 3.30pm.
Cellarium Café and Terrace: 8am to 4.30pm.
Kiosk: 8am to 5pm.
Westminster Abbey Shop: 9.15am to 6.30pm.
Dean’s Yard: 8am to 5pm, and it may close with little notice for security or unforeseen reasons.
So the shop opens 15 minutes before the Abbey and closes three hours after it. The café opens 90 minutes before admission begins. If you arrive at 4pm you cannot go in, but you can have tea and buy a book.
These hours are set per day on a calendar, so check the date you are going rather than assuming.
Groups cannot come in at lunchtime
Group entry runs 9.30am to 3pm, and group entry is not permitted between 12pm and 1pm.
A half hour shorter at the end of the day than general admittance, with an hour cut out of the middle. If you are organising a group, that is effectively two windows: 9.30 to 12, and 1 to 3.
The guide is included, in fourteen languages
A multimedia guide is included in the price of admission, covering over a thousand years of history.
Pick up a device on arrival, or download a shortened version to your own phone or tablet. If you use your own device, bring headphones.
Commentary is available in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic.
How to plan it
Book direct on the Abbey’s own website, then ask the Visitor Experience team to upgrade your ticket to an annual pass. Three visits, £32.
Never buy through a third party if you might return, because those tickets cannot be upgraded.
One adult and one child: the £32 family ticket, which saves £14.
Over 65 or a student: £29.
Coming by train: ask about the 2 for 1 National Rail offer.
Arriving after 3.30pm: you cannot go in, but the café is open to 4.30pm and the shop to 6.30pm.
Bringing a group: 9.30am to 12pm or 1pm to 3pm, never across lunch.
Using your own phone for the guide: bring headphones.
