Ronnie Scott’s: £6 for Students After 11.15pm, Free for MU Members

The Late Late Show is the cheapest way into Britain's most famous jazz club. Plus the Tuesday that closes two hours early, and the four conditions on bringing a teenager.

A jazz club stage with a man performing

A Musicians’ Union member can walk into Ronnie Scott’s for nothing. A student can get in for £6. Both on a Wednesday or Thursday, after 11.15pm.

This is the Late Late Show, and it is the cheapest way into the most famous jazz club in Britain:

“Students (with a valid student card) and musicians can access the club for half price (£6) on Wednesdays and Thursdays after 11.15pm, subject to availability. Musician’s Union (MU) members can access the Late Late Show on Wednesdays and Thursdays for free if they present their card at reception.”

Six pounds for a student or a musician. Free for an MU member who shows their card at reception. Same room, same stage, same club on Frith Street that has been running since 1959.

Two conditions worth noting: it is Wednesdays and Thursdays only, and it is subject to availability, so it is not a guaranteed seat. But at that price, turning up and being turned away costs you nothing but the walk.

Members get free Late Late Show tickets too

If you go more than occasionally, the membership maths is unusually generous.

20 per cent off any Main Show tickets, up to four per show, with the member in attendance.

Four free tickets to the Late Late Shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Two free tickets on Fridays and Saturdays.

Entry is subject to availability, as with everything on the late bill. But a member bringing three friends to a Wednesday Late Late Show pays nothing at all.

The club runs to 3am, except on Tuesday

The hours are not uniform, and the odd one out catches people planning a late night.

Main Club, checked on 6 October 2026:

Monday: 17.30 to 03.00.

Tuesday: 17.30 to 01.00.

Wednesday to Saturday: 17.30 to 03.00.

Sunday: lunch 12.00 to 16.00, then evening 18.30 to 00.00.

So Tuesday closes two hours earlier than the nights either side of it, and Sunday splits into two separate sittings with a two and a half hour gap in the middle.

Upstairs at Ronnie’s keeps its own timetable: Monday to Saturday 17.00 to 03.00, and Sunday lunch 13.00 to 17.00 with an evening session 18.45 to 00.00. It opens half an hour before the main club on weekdays.

Their standing caveat: “Please note opening times can vary. Please check your order email confirmation for the correct information.” The confirmation email is the authority, not the website.

Fourteen year olds can come, but only if they are eating

A three-tier age policy, and the middle tier is the one nobody expects.

“Ronnie Scott’s is an over-18s venue and is not a suitable environment for babies or young children.”

Then the exception:

“Teenagers aged 14 and over may join our brunch and lunch shows, and our early evening 1st house shows in the Main Club when accompanied by a parent or guardian, provided they are seated and dining.”

Four conditions stacked: 14 or over, a brunch, lunch or early evening first house show, with a parent or guardian, and seated and dining. Standing at the back with a soft drink does not qualify.

And the hard line: “Upstairs at Ronnie’s is strictly over-18s only, with no exceptions.”

So a family visit means the Main Club, early, with a table and a meal booked.

No refunds, but you can move the booking

Clear, and more flexible than the headline suggests.

“We are unable to offer a refund for cancellations but we are happy to move your booking to another show or issue a credit note to your Ronnie Scott’s account.”

The deadline is the part to diary: “We are able to accommodate changes with at least 5 days’ notice before the date of the show you have booked.”

Five days, not twenty-four hours. Inside that window there is no move and no credit.

Credit notes are valid for one year and worth the ticket value minus the booking fee. Quote your order number when asking.

Changes go through bookings@ronniescotts.co.uk or 020 7439 0747.

A ramp over three steps, and Upstairs is not accessible

Honest and specific, including about what does not work.

“Ronnie Scott’s main club is wheelchair accessible. From Frith Street, there is a wheelchair ramp to assist with the three steps into the club. On arrival, please let the security on the front door know if you require the wheelchair ramp.”

So the ramp is deployed on request rather than permanently in place. Tell the door staff as you arrive.

Inside: step-free access to the club and the ground-floor seating area facing the stage, with accessible toilets on the ground floor.

Then the limit: “if you are booking for Upstairs at Ronnie’s, this room is not wheelchair accessible.”

Front-of-house staff are trained to assist blind and visually impaired guests, and guide dogs are welcome.

On companions: one complimentary companion ticket for guests who need someone with them, arranged through the Box Office before the visit. Evidence may be asked for, and the accepted list is wider than at many venues: “a Blue Badge, PIP, DLA, Attendance Allowance or similar supporting documentation.”

Worth noting that a Blue Badge is accepted here, where Brixton Academy explicitly refuses it as evidence. The two venues sit at opposite ends of the same question.

If you have seating requirements, the club asks you to call 020 7439 0747 before booking rather than after.

Travel light

One line, and it is a genuine constraint in a basement club in Soho.

“We have limited space in our cloakroom so please do not attend with excess baggage. We cannot guarantee we will be able to take larger items.”

No published dimensions, but no guarantee either. A suitcase after a day of sightseeing is a risk.

Where it is

Ronnie Scott’s, 47 Frith Street, Soho, London W1D 4HT. 020 7439 0747.

It is in the middle of Soho, a few minutes from Leicester Square, Tottenham Court Road and Piccadilly Circus, which matters because the club runs to 3am and the tube does not.

The club also runs the Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation, and sells memberships, merchandise and vouchers.

How to plan it

Cheapest way in: the Late Late Show, Wednesday or Thursday after 11.15pm.

Student or musician: £6. Bring the card.

Musicians’ Union member: free, on presenting your card at reception.

Going often: membership gets 20 per cent off main shows and free late tickets.

Tuesday closes at 1am, two hours earlier than the rest of the week.

Sunday is two sittings, lunch and evening, with a gap between.

Bringing a 14 to 17 year old: Main Club only, early show, seated and dining, with a parent.

Upstairs at Ronnie’s: over 18s only and not wheelchair accessible.

Need to change a booking: do it at least 5 days ahead. There are no refunds.

Wheelchair user: tell the door staff about the ramp and call before booking about seating.

Do not bring luggage. The cloakroom is small.

Questions we get asked

How can you get into Ronnie Scott's cheaply?

The Late Late Show on Wednesdays and Thursdays after 11.15pm is the answer. Students with a valid student card and musicians pay £6, half price, and Musicians' Union members get in free on presenting their card at reception. Both are subject to availability. Members of the club also receive four free Late Late Show tickets on Wednesdays and Thursdays and two on Fridays and Saturdays.

What are Ronnie Scott's opening times?

The Main Club runs 17.30 to 03.00 on Monday and Wednesday to Saturday, but only 17.30 to 01.00 on Tuesday, two hours shorter. Sunday splits into a lunch sitting from 12.00 to 16.00 and an evening from 18.30 to 00.00. Upstairs at Ronnie's runs 17.00 to 03.00 Monday to Saturday, with Sunday lunch 13.00 to 17.00 and evening 18.45 to 00.00. Times can vary, and the club says your order confirmation email carries the correct information.

Is Ronnie Scott's over 18s?

Mostly. The Main Club is an over-18s venue, but teenagers aged 14 and over may attend brunch and lunch shows and early evening first house shows when accompanied by a parent or guardian and provided they are seated and dining. Upstairs at Ronnie's is strictly over 18s with no exceptions, and the club states it is not a suitable environment for babies or young children.

Can you get a refund at Ronnie Scott's?

No, but you can move the booking. The club does not refund cancellations, though it will transfer your booking to another show or issue a credit note, provided you give at least five days' notice before the date booked. Credit notes are valid for a year and worth the ticket value minus the booking fee. Contact bookings@ronniescotts.co.uk or 020 7439 0747 with your order number.

Is Ronnie Scott's wheelchair accessible?

The Main Club is. A wheelchair ramp covers the three steps up from Frith Street, deployed on request, so tell the security staff on the door when you arrive. Inside there is step-free access to the ground-floor seating facing the stage and accessible toilets on that floor. Upstairs at Ronnie's is not wheelchair accessible. Guide dogs are welcome and front-of-house staff are trained to assist blind and visually impaired guests.

Does Ronnie Scott's offer a carer ticket?

Yes, one complimentary companion ticket for guests who need someone with them because of disability. Arrange it through the Box Office on 020 7439 0747 or by email before your visit. Evidence may be requested, and the club accepts a Blue Badge, PIP, DLA, Attendance Allowance or similar documentation.

Is Ronnie Scott's membership worth it?

It depends how often you go. Membership gives 20 per cent off any Main Show tickets, up to four per show with the member present, plus four free tickets to the Wednesday and Thursday Late Late Shows and two free tickets on Fridays and Saturdays, all subject to availability. A member taking three guests to a midweek Late Late Show pays nothing.
